Mother's Day Treasure

So this is not math related, but since Mother's Day is right around the corner, I wanted to share this in case some of you want to try it with your class.  This is a picture of my son, Paul, when he was in 2nd grade.

His teacher, Mrs. Sanders, had a great idea for a Mother's Day gift.  It was such a simple idea and I simply treasure it!

She framed the picture in popsicle sticks and attached magnets to the back.

It took a prominent place on my refrigerator where it remains to this day.
How long is that, you ask?
Well, here is another picture of Paul taken just last week...
before his Senior Prom!

Hope this provides a little inspiration for an easy but memorable Mother's Day gift!

Common Core App!

I added a Common Core App to the blog as a useful tool when you need to reference the standards.  It is very user friendly.  You can find it along the far edge of your screen beyond the sidebar.  Give it a try. ----------->

In fact, you can even download the app to your smart phone.  For iPhone users, click here.  Android users can click here.  It may not be your most frequently used app, but it does come in handy when you need a quick on-the-go reference.  Enjoy!

Moving On Up!

Hi friends,

I've been very quiet during the month of April, and if you are a parent, you know what that means! :)  Yes, it means I have been busily plotting my next move! Yes, I said move.  It turns out there is famous mathematician who shares a very similar name and logo like the one I used for my blog...uh, oh! That will NOT work.  So... over the last few weeks, I've tossed ideas back and forth and have decided to change my blog up a bit, which involves a move from this URL to a new one.  Simple, quick, and painless...right?

I will graciously beg my sweet followers to follow me to the new location when it is unveiled.  I am working with Diana over at Custom Blog Designs on getting a nice, neat and polished blog design, and it should be ready to launch by early next week.

Of course, the move did not come without a few hiccups.  I am also changing the name and other contact info, so check back soon to see all the details.  When it is finally complete, we can concentrate on how to teach the math!   Stay tuned!

Welcome!

Welcome to The Math Solution Blog!

This will be a place where teachers can collaborate with each other to share great ideas, math resources, and best practices for the classroom.  I plan to have lots of free resources for the taking and will link up with some real teacher-superstars and have them share their secrets to success.

Teachers are pros when it comes to creative and innovative ways to enhance student learning.  And when it comes right down to it, we can all learn from each other.  There are many times in my teaching career that other great teachers came to my rescue with timely suggestions.  In fact, that's the nature of my job as a Math Specialist.  And I love learning alongside my teachers and their students.

Please bear with my early attempts at blogging, until I get all the bugs worked out.  And by all means leave comments, share ideas, like the FB Fan Page and invite other teacher friends to join in the fun.  If you have ideas for things to post, or if you would consider being a guest blogger, click here to get in touch with me.

Now, please make sure you leave a comment and tell us what grade you teach and where you are from.  We all would love to meet you!

P.S.  Here's your first FREEBIE!  Just a little something to brighten your day.  Place it near your desk or post it for your students.  Either way, everyone needs to know that they are someone special!  Click on the link below to get it!
